Announcing our three newest web sites!

On-Line Reources for Parents The world wide web has become a great resource for both researchers and shoppers. When it comes to Attention Deficit Disorder, however, there have only been a few resources worth visiting long. Although that is changing (and here at NewIdeas.Net we are working hard to change this) worthwhile sites are still hard to find. Here are some of our favorites for you to consider... The ADD Warehouse On-Line: Over 300 great ADD ADHD related products are available through the ADD Warehouse. We have handed out dozens of ADD Warehouse catalogues to our patients over the years, and now they are available on-line for easy ordering. Be sure to visit their site. They carry products for parents, teachers, and therapists on all aspects of attention deficit disorder - ADD or ADHD. If you have questions about medications, these sites have the answers: MentalHealth.com, American Medical Association, HealthAtoZ, the National Library of Medicine, and MedicineNet. The very best site, both in terms of information and in speed of navigation, is the MentalHealth.com site. This is a site to bookmark. Written by a physician from Canada, this site is my first choice whenever I am asked about medications that I am not familiar with, or when a patient wants to read about medications that they are taking. I just link to the site, find the medication, and print out a great description for the patient. Be sure to visit. ADDinSchool.com has hundreds of classroom interventions for ADD ADHD students. Developed by our staff here at NewIdeas.Net, we worked hard to gather up resources that have been collected over the years from dozens of resources to put them on-line for you. Parents, teachers, and health professionals will all benefit from this information. There are sections for Elementary School and High School Students. Subsections for Impulsivity, On-Task behaviors, Classroom Management, and much more! If you have, or teach, an ADD child, please visit this site. ADD411.com is the Complete ADD ADHD Bookstore for parents and teachers. The Complete ADD ADHD Bookstore is a great place to find the best books on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The have over 100 recommended books on ADD ADHD for parents, teachers, and therapists. Our recommended books include titles not normally discussed at your local ChADD meeting, such as Daniel Amen's books on ADD from his SPECT scan experiences, books on Diet interventions, Classroom Interventions, Behavior Modification programs, and much more. From Russell Barkley to Hallowell to Reif, all of the great ADD ADHD Books are here at this one location. Buy a book a month and be well informed! Working together with Amazon.com, the Complete ADD ADHD Bookstore makes finding and buying the right book easy. It doesn't get any better than this for finding beginning, intermediate, or advanced books on attention deficit disorder. The Attention Deficit Disorder Information Library is the classic ADD ADHD information site with over 80 pages of information on ADD ADHD for parents, teachers. We are completely redoing this site as we write this, and the new "look" should be finished by this Saturday. We originally wrote the site in 1995, and it has pretty much looked the same since. We have had tens of thousands of people read through the information in the Library over the years, including our discussions on Diagnosis, Treatment Options from Medications to Alternative Treatments, Diet and Nutrition information, Support Group information, and so much more. Please visit once again and tell us what you think of the "New Look" at NewIdeas.net. The EEG Spectrum web site has tremendous information on EEG Biofeedback training as a treatment option for ADD ADHD Attention Deficit Disorder. |

From the RESEARCH section of ADD-Products.com... Discussion of Presented Data on ADD ADHD Our conclusion... The "winner" of the "Marketplace" competetion was stimulant medication (Ritalin and Dexedrine) for the 30 day trial. However, we believe that both the EEG Biofeedback group and the "Attend" group would continue to make gains beyond their measured gains at 30 days, whereas the MED group would not. The Comparison Data shows that each treatment option is beneficial. Here's why we like the "Attend" more than the EEG Biofeedback or the Stimulant Medication... 1. "Attend" can give better results than the EEG Biofeedback training, at least as shown in our 30 day trials. The typical course of EEG training is 40 sessions over a 120 day period of time. The typical cost for EEG training is between $2,500 to $4,000. Yes EEG Biofeedback training works, but "Attend" can deliver the same results, or better, for about $300 over a four month period of use. If you are doing the EEG Biofeedback training, consider also using the "Attend" product. We feel that using both can enhance the EEG training, and speed up the process (and lower the over-all cost of the EEG training). 2. "Attend" does not have the potential serious side-effects of Stimulant Medications. Yes, Stimulant Medications work, and work quickly. Just make sure that your physician knows what he or she is doing (Here is an article dated 10-02-2000 on recent Congressional hearings that you might want to visit). If you are going to use stimulant medications, also consider using the "Attend" nutraceutical product at the same time. We have see many children and teens decrease their effective, or optimal dose of stimulants by 50% or more, ie. a child receiving great benefit from three 10mg doses of Ritalin might receive the same benefit from three 5mg doses of Ritalin plus the Attend. The Attend takes about 30 to 45 days to really take effect. ALWAYS talk with your physician before making any changes to anybody's medications. Stimulant medications are not toys, or vitamins. They are powerful interventions for the treatment of attention deficit disorder. They can be a sharp two-edged sword, so treat them with respect. See all of the data from our Clinical Studies, as well as the Comparison between STIMULANT MEDICATIONS, EEG BIOFEEDBACK TRAINING, and ATTEND Nutraceuticals.

Researchers find early warning sign for kids prone to depression Agence France-Presse September 14, 2000 CHICAGO, Sept 14 (AFP) - US researchers have pinpointed what they believe is an early warning sign for children susceptible to depression, a study released Thursday said. The study shows for the first time that children at high risk of developing a major depression have an abnormality in their production of growth hormone (GH) which could signal a malfunctioning in their brain chemistry. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine who tested 119 children found that children at high risk for depression, because of a family history of mood disorders, produced "significantly" less growth hormone than a control group when they were given growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). |
